Huawei rocks IFA 2018 with the Kirin 980 processor

Huawei is always known for its innovation and out of the box thinking. And they constantly outdo themselves with future-ready upgrades and developments. One such upgrades is the Kirin 980 processor. A notch above their existing Kirin 970 processor, Kirin 980 is an extremely powerful processor which has just rocked IFA 2018. It is rare occasion that a processor is named as the Best of IFA, but Kirin 980 bagged the honours!

The first aspect that strikes us about Kirin 980 is the fact that it is the world’s first 7nm mobile CPU. With this, it beats Qualcomm fair and square. It is here important to note that the eight-core chip is based on ARM’s Cortex-A76 CPU and Mali-G76 GPU. It comes with a Cat.21 modem and is the first mobile SoC to support 2,133MHz LPDDR4X RAM. It also brings the fastest Wi-Fi for smartphones (1732Mbps).

The glory run of Kirin 980 at the IFA 2018 understandable considering the fact that it is powered by Artificial Intelligence. With two NPUs (neural processor unit), it not only outdoes its predecessor Kirin 970 but also outruns Snapdragon 845 and Apple’s A11 when it comes to AI image recognition. Kirin 980 facilitates faster camera processing and better power efficiency. Pitched against Qualcomm’s latest chip, Kirin 980 wins the battle with 20% more memory and 22% less latency.

It is slated for an October launch with Huawei Mate 20 in line to become the first Kirin 980-equipped device.
