Honor Play vs OnePlus 6: Which is Real Flagship Killer

Nowadays, the gap between the expensive flagships and budget phones are getting closer. More and more budget phones are equipped with flagship-like features and it is hard for flagships to prove they are worth the price bump.

For those who realize this and don’t want to spend a huge fortune buying a new phone, the biggest question is which phone they should choose.

Now with the festival discount, the OnePlus 6 equipped with Snapdragon 845 is sold at the price of Rs. 34,999 while the Honor Play equipped with the Kirin 970 is only sold at Rs. 18,999. So which is better for you?

Design & Display

Both the Honor Play and the OnePlus 6 follows the design trend in 2018. The Honor Play comes with a 6.3-inch FHD+ LCD display with a small notch and a resolution ratio of 1080 X 2340. The OnePlus 6 also has a notch, and it gets a 6.28-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a resolution ratio of 1080 X 2280.

Displays of these two phones are great as they are clear and produce vibrant colors. Both of them offers several color mode so you can change according to your preference.

Turn the phone around, the Honor Play has a flat, curved-edged mental back. The colorful Honor Play looks premium and modern and you can hold it very comfortably. Meanwhile, the OnePlus 6 turns to the glass back and abandon the mental back design since OnePlus 3, which makes it more premium but also more expensive.

Both phones have a great display and a beautiful appearance. The OnePlus 6 has a premium glass back, but it is a bit slippy to be held and more fragile. Though the Honor Play uses the mental back but still looks great.

Performance

Though these two phones are not as expensive as flagships, they both are powered by flagship processors. The OnePlus 6 is equipped with the Snapdragon 845 while the Honor Play is powered by the Kirin 970 AI Chipset, the same chipset used by the Huawei P20 and Honor 10.

Also, the Honor Play is the first Honor phone equipped with the GPU Turbo, which is Huawei’s hardware-software integration and graphics processing acceleration technology that optimize the mobile gaming experience.

As for the gaming performance in real life, according to Mr. Mobile, an independent technology media, when playing the PUBG, the median FPS of two phones are 40. Plus, they offered a stable and smooth gaming experience as the FPS stability of the Honor Play and the OnePlus 6 is 96% and 97% respectively.

Winner: OnePlus 6. It has little advantage for running heavy games.

Hardware

Both phones offer several storage options. The Honor Play comes with two variants: 4GB RAM+64GB ROM and 6GB RAM+64GB ROM. The OnePlus 6 has 3 sizes:  6GB RAM+64GB/8GB+128GB/256GB ROM. For now, all these storage options can ensure a smooth user experience.

As always, OnePlus doesn’t support expandable storage while the Honor Play allows expandable storage up to 256GB.

The battery life is also an advantage for the Honor Play since it is powered by a huge battery of 3,750 mAh while the OnePlus 6 only gets 3,300 mAh.

Camera

The Honor Play and the OnePlus 6 are two of the best camera phone among their price range. They can capture great details and vibrant color even the light situation is not ideal enough. Plus, both phone has a portrait mode that allows you take portrait photos with perfect bokeh effect.

The Honor Play is equipped with a setup of the 16MP+2MP dual rear camera and 16MP front camera. The OnePlus 6 has 16MP+20MP dual rear camera and also a 16MP front camera.

Just like other Honor phones, the Honor Play camera has a built-in AI and it can recognize 22 different categories and 500 scenarios and optimize photos smartly.

Conclusion:

From comparison above, it is easy to find both the Honor Play and the OnePlus 6 are strong competitors for the title of Flagship Killer. It is true that the OnePlus 6 has better performance, but the Honor Play also gets great performance and a bigger battery.

What’s more important, the Honor Play is Rs. 16,000 cheaper than the OnePlus 6 and it seems the OnePlus 6 offers performance worth that much money, which makes the Honor Play really attractive. So, personally I think the Honor Play is the real flagship.
